FREE CONCERT: Oratorio Society Christmas Concert December 10th

The FRONT ROYAL ORATORIO SOCIETY presents their annual free, Christmas concert on Sunday, December 10, 4:00 PM at Front Royal Presbyterian Church (115 Luray Ave, Front Royal). Bring your family and celebrate the joy of Christmas with glorious choral music!

Entitled “Making Spirits Bright”, the program features beautiful and timeless carols and anthems with the Winchester String Quartet accompanying.

The whole family is welcome, including the kids and tots.  The concert is free with a freewill offering.

The perfect Christmas tree for your home or business

Boy Scout Troop 52 out of Front Royal VA is gearing up for their annual Christmas tree fundraising sales located at the Royal Plaza Shopping Center just across from Rural King.

Christmas trees will be on sale starting November 24th up through December 21st. Hours are: Monday thru Friday 4 pm-8 pm Saturday 8 am to 8 pm Sunday Noon to 8 pm.

The Scouts are ready to help you pick out the perfect Christmas tree for your home or business. Christmas tree funds and donations help the scouts pay for summer camp and other trips throughout the coming year.

Christmas trees range from $35 to $50 dollars and the troop will continue selling them until December 21st unless they sell out before then.

Samuels Public Library invites you to a workshop for beginning to advanced genealogists. Discover your family roots with a team of genealogists who together have researched more than 50,000 names. SPL-Books and Beyond
Samuels Public Library invites you to join us for the Books & Beyond Book Club on Wednesday, December 20th at 10:00am, where My Name is Lucy Barton by Elizabeth Strout will be discussed. Lucy Barton is recovering slowly from what should have been a simple operation. Her mother, to whom she hasn’t spoken for many years, comes to see her. Gentle gossip about people from Lucy’s childhood in Amgash, Illinois, seems to reconnect them, but just below the surface lie the tension and longing that have informed every aspect of Lucy’s life: her escape from her troubled family, her desire to become a writer, her marriage, her love for her two daughters.

Vibes in the Libes: Christmas Carols
Samuels Public Library invites to come out and catch the holiday spirit with a special holiday music program with musician John Kovac & Friends on Friday, December 22nd at 11:00am. Bring a friend and ring in the holidays singing all your favorite Christmas carols!

Crochet Group
Samuels Public Library invites you to come out and learn how to crochet or share your talents. The group will meet on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 10am (December 13th & 27th).  All ability levels welcome.

Winter Holiday closings
Due to the holidays the library will be closing at 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 23rd. The library will be closed Monday, December 25th and Tuesday, December 26th with regular hours beginning Wednesday, December 27th.

Annual Christmas Parade to be held on December 2nd

The Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the 2017 Christmas Parade.  The parade will be held on Saturday, December 2nd at 4 p.m. in Downtown Front Royal.

The parade will begin with the official lighting of the town Christmas tree and Main Street holiday lights by Mayor Hollis Tharpe and town council members at the gazebo.

Participants include local businesses, civic and volunteer organizations, hot air balloons, comic book characters, church groups, Warren County and Skyline High School band, neighborhood groups, beauty contestants, and of course the jolly old elf himself, Santa.  Applications are still available for those wishing to participate.

“We’re excited to once again coordinate this great community event,” said Niki Foster, President of the Front Royal-Warren County Chamber of Commerce.  “Holiday activities like the Christmas Parade are a great way to connect business and community.  We hope everyone will come out and enjoy all the wonder and excitement our downtown has to offer.”

Parade line-up begins at 3pm at the Warren County Middle School on Luray Avenue, parade will then travel down Luray Avenue to Stonewall Drive to Royal Avenue, over to Main Street, left onto Chester Street and a final right onto 3rd Street and disband in the Warren County Government Center parking lot.

Please come out for a great night of fun and entertainment in Front Royal. We have a fantastic line up of musicians, poets, dancers, actors, and other performers who are coming together to support Roof Over Their Heads, a nonprofit that supports the homeless in Warren County.

The event is free but donations are encouraged and we will have a raffle, food, and drinks.

The event starts at 7 PM and will take place at the What Matters/Open House space to the left of the Daily Grind on Main Street.

Featured Performers:

  • Local musicians Noah Waggener and Mike Shotton of the Daycare Swindlers, along with bassist Rafe Ruggierio, will unveil a new musical project.
  • Alan King, a poet who has published 2 books of poems, Drift and Point Blank, will read from new work. He holds an MFA in creative writing, is a 3-time Pushcart Prize nominee, and has been nominated 3 times for Best of the Net.
  • Missi Magalis, a fiction writer and an English teacher at Diversified Minds (a non-traditional program of Warren County Public Schools), will read from her work. A graduate of Shenandoah University, she has published 5 novels through her company Happy Creek Publishing.
  • Selah Theatre Troupe will perform selected scenes. Selah’s mission is to empower, educate, and enlighten our community with theatrical opportunities that encourage conversations and have a positive impact.

Also: Music by Rich Follett, impressions by Paul Martin, music by Gabe and Willow, comedy by Kip, music by Mark & Celia Cooley, poetry by Jose Padua, Heather Davis, Tammy Ruggiero, and MORE!

Randolph-Macon Academy’s Drama Department will present “Mulan” in Melton Memorial Gymnasium on the R-MA campus this week.

A matinee performance will take place on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 1:30 pm. Evening performances will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, November 15th and 16th, at 7:30 pm.
