Bob Cullers To Share Family’s Civil War Story at Warren Rifles Museum
An upcoming program at the Warren Rifles Museum in Front Royal will focus on ten generations of one local family’s history—from an 18th-century journey to America to the battlefields of the Civil War.
Bob Cullers will present “Company D and the Cullers Family Journey” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the museum, 95 Chester St.
Cullers will trace his family’s story to 1743, when his great-great-great-great-grandfather John Cullers and his wife, Maria, arrived in Philadelphia from Germany. The couple later became among the earliest settlers of Fort Valley.
From there, Cullers will follow 10 generations of his family, exploring the people, places, and experiences that shaped their lives and created a legacy that continues today.
A major part of the program will focus on the Civil War and the Cullers family’s connection to the conflict.
The house and barn where Cullers’ great-great-grandfather raised 13 children still stand today. All 13 children were involved in the Civil War.
Among them was Cullers’ great-uncle Levi, who formed and commanded Company D in Stonewall Jackson’s 146th Regiment. Company D was made up entirely of men from Warren County and Fort Valley.
Cullers will share stories of the company’s experiences and the wider impact the war had on his family.
Rather than focusing only on battles and military movements, the program will explore how the Civil War affected individual lives and families and how those experiences continued to shape later generations.
The program begins at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Warren Rifles Museum, 95 Chester St., in Front Royal.
