FRONT ROYAL – Senior citizens from the area flocked to the Health and Human Services Complex on 15th Street Thursday for a safety and education event billed as a “Senior Safety Carnival”.
The event was held by the TRIAD, which is a cooperative effort of law enforcement agencies (police/fire/sheriff), senior citizens, and senior organizations, focused on reducing crimes against senior citizens.

of the seniors. Carnival-style games were set up around the perimeter of the gym, and vendors had safety tips and information that were incorporated into the games, so the participants were gathering useful information as they played for prizes.
In addition to being entertained by local singer–and former police officer Danny Figgins–the seniors were treated to a catered lunch.
According to Front Royal Police Sergeant Robbie Seal, one of the event’s organizers, the number of participants for this year’s event more than doubled. He attributed the higher number of participants, around 100, to the “fun atmosphere” of the event.
He said in past years, much of the information was presented in a more formal setting, where participants sat and listened, and a suggestion from a senior citizen attending one of those Triad events suggested making the event “more fun”.

Fire Marshal Gerry Maiatico and crew were on hand with a display of equipment.
