Kicking the Can Down the Road: EDA Debt Demands Real Leadership

Published

on

A recent article in the Royal Examiner highlights the fallout from the Warren/Front Royal EDA’s insolvency. The question is being asked if and when the repayments restart again from the town and county of the 3.7 million dollars owned to the bank that was backed by the good faith and credit of both governmental bodies.

The Town and the County have been aware of this situation for years since the embezzlement was exposed and legal action taken.  Here lies the danger of not addressing issues in a timely fashion. It’s like having a tooth problem and ignoring the need to address it immediately. The pain temporarily goes away for a while, but the problem does not. It continues to get worse and more expensive. The current Council’s attitude is to kick the problem down the road to the next Council.

The elected leadership must have the vision and experience to deal with these issues in real-time.

The Council’s lack of willingness to work with all parties to find a solution is just another example of the dysfunction that requires new leadership. At the end of the day, we, the citizens, will be paying for the lack of action on this issue.

Let’s chalk this up to another issue on a growing list that continues to be kicked down the road.

It’s time for a change. Vote.
