Library Fight and Environmental Oversight Reveal Skewed Priorities

Published

on

I’ve held off writing for quite some time regarding the current political class of Warren County politicians.  But the more I see as written in the pages of our daily newspaper, I’m forced to chip in my two cents.

It appears that the current political figures have an agenda about which they failed to inform the county citizenry before the last election. Their vendetta towards the Samuels Library and their total disregard for the legitimate concerns of a goodly number of residents look an awful lot like a bunch of spoiled brats not getting their way and taking their ball home.

I’m a firm believer in the US Constitution and the Bill of Rights.  Do I agree with the LGBT way of life?  Nope!  But I’ve been around long enough to know that young, inquisitive minds deserve access to as much information as possible as they try to sort out who they are and what they want to be.  It’s their lives, not yours or mine.  Other than basic ideas of good and evil, they should be allowed to live their lives as they see fit.

No one religion is the one true path to a happy afterlife.  No one knows what lies beyond this mortal coil.  For all we know, the pearly gates just might be guarded not by angels but by talking cats and dogs.

And while the Catholic cabal on the Board of Supervisors has an axe to grind against an institution that provides excellent service to the community, they seem to be unconcerned about another institution that, if the story printed here is correct, has been illegally dumping sewage into our waterways. Where is the county Department of Sanitation or code enforcement actions to correct this issue?  Having a previous run in several years ago with a housing complex, my violator got a five-figure fine from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and was forced to restore the waterway.

But, I reckon that the quality of life for Virginia residents is not at the top of their priority list.
