Sixth District Perspectives with Congressman Ben Cline – January 7, 2025

As we welcome the New Year, it’s a great time to reflect on our past and look forward to new possibilities. House Republicans are ready to work with President Trump and a Republican-led Senate to deliver results for the American people. During my time at home for Christmas, I enjoyed reconnecting with many folks in the Valley. Hearing their thoughts on important issues and meeting the next generation of leaders brought me hope for our future. As we tackle the challenges our nation faces, rest assured that I will always make sure your concerns are heard and ensure the federal government is working for the people of Virginia’s Sixth District.

Kicking off the 119th Congress
Last week marked the beginning of the 119th Congress, and I am honored to continue serving Virginia’s Sixth District while advocating for our shared values. To kick off the new session, I had the privilege of hosting a swearing-in reception for Sixth District Constituents. I had a great time connecting with folks from all over the Shenandoah and Roanoke Valleys right here in Washington. Thank you to all the friends and new faces who joined us for this great day!

Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan stopped by to say a few words the reception.

Thank you to everyone who joined us up in Washington D.C.

Speaker Johnson’s Re-Election To Lead House Republicans
House Republicans also re-elected Speaker Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House on January 3rd. Throughout the 118th Congress, Speaker Johnson proved his exceptional ability to lead and his unwavering commitment to delivering real results will positively impact hard-working Americans across our country. Speaker Johnson’s determination to enact meaningful change through the Trump agenda exactly what our Nation needs right now. Working alongside President Trump, Mike Johnson is the right person to lead House Republicans at this critical juncture in our Nation’s history. We will continue fighting for the values that matter most and ensure a brighter future for all Americans.

Fighting For a Brighter Future
Kicking off the 119th Congress, I have already cosponsored key legislation to address the pressing issues we face. The Biden/Harris Administration’s border policies have left our Nation vulnerable, resulting in millions of illegal migrants entering our country and threatening local communities. That’s why I have cosponsored the Finish the Wall Act, directing DHS to resume wall construction with already approved funding.

As you may remember, Laken Riley tragically lost her life to an illegal migrant. The Laken Riley Act ensures ICE takes custody of illegal aliens involved in theft-related crimes, keeping repeat offenders out of our neighborhoods. Our wide-open border has also led to a flood of fentanyl produced in China and trafficked by the Mexican cartel. That’s why I have cosponsored The HALT Fentanyl Act, which combats this crisis by classifying these substances as Schedule I drugs, facilitating essential research.

Last year, we also discovered non-citizens on our Commonwealth’s voter rolls, prompting House Republicans to act with the SAVE Act. I have cosponsored this important piece of legislation this Congress, which requires proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections, a necessary step to protect our democracy. Rest assured, I will continue to support and champion legislation that prioritizes the needs and interests of the American people.

Back to Work

As we look ahead to the 119th Congress, I look forward to working with my Republican colleagues to advance President Trump’s America First agenda. It’s time to confront the challenges Americans have faced under the Biden-Harris Administration and the Democrat-led Senate and pass meaningful legislation that reinstates fiscal responsibility and delivers relief to the American people.

The Biden-Harris Administration has put Americans in a tough spot for far too long. We’ve seen surging inflation rise by over 20%, while energy costs have skyrocketed more than 28% since they took office. Bureaucratic red tape is suffocating our growth, and our borders are being overrun by illegal immigrants due to their open border agenda. We’ve also witnessed our country’s deterioration on the world stage, plagued by weak responses to foreign adversaries. And let’s not forget the government overreach that has invaded our schools and institutions.

Alongside President Trump and a Republican-led Senate, House Republicans are fully committed to addressing these issues head-on. We will fight for policies that empower small businesses, eliminate excessive red tape, secure our borders, curb inflation, and show strength on the world stage. I am eager to reverse the harmful policies that have stifled our nation’s growth over the past four years and restore accountability in Washington.
