Spanberger Emphasizes Job Growth, Business Investment After New Jobs Report
Gov. Abigail Spanberger said Virginia will continue focusing on job creation and economic growth after new federal data showed the U.S. economy lost jobs in February.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the national economy lost 92,000 jobs last month, a sign that economic uncertainty may continue in the months ahead.
In response, Spanberger said her administration will prioritize attracting new businesses and supporting employers across the commonwealth.
“Today’s job numbers are a reminder that economic uncertainty is not going away any time soon,” Spanberger said in a statement. “Across the Commonwealth, I’ve heard from working Virginians, small business owners, and industry leaders about the need for stability.”
Spanberger said the state has already secured hundreds of millions of dollars in new investments during the first months of her administration.
According to the governor’s office, Virginia has announced about $575 million in new business investment so far this year. Those projects are expected to create nearly 2,000 jobs across the state.
State leaders often compete with neighboring states to attract companies through incentives, workforce programs, and infrastructure improvements. Economic development officials say those efforts are intended to bring new industries to Virginia while helping existing businesses expand.
Spanberger said maintaining a stable business environment remains a top priority.
“I am focused on growing Virginia’s economy, attracting new business investment and creating good-paying jobs right here at home,” she said.
The governor also emphasized that economic stability is important for both employers and workers. Business leaders frequently point to predictable policies and workforce availability as key factors when deciding where to expand or relocate.
Spanberger said her administration plans to continue promoting Virginia as a competitive place for companies to operate.
“I will continue to make clear to companies that Virginia is the very best place to start or grow their operations,” she said.
Economic development initiatives have been a major focus for Virginia leaders in recent years as the state seeks to diversify its economy and support job growth in industries such as manufacturing, technology, and logistics.
Spanberger said those efforts will continue as state officials work to bring new opportunities to communities across Virginia.
“I will always work to maintain a stable, predictable business climate for Virginia’s employers, employees, and communities,” she said.
