You Could Be an Angel on ‘Be An Angel Day’

Published

on

Have you ever been asked, “Be an angel and…” followed by a simple request like fetching a book or walking the dog? Or perhaps you played the role of an angel in a grade school Christmas play? On August 22, you have the chance to don your angel wings again by participating in Be An Angel Day. This special day encourages everyone to perform a good deed for someone else.

A Day for Kindness

Be An Angel Day was created in 1993 by Jayne Howard Feldman, who says she was inspired by angels. However, the event is nondenominational, inviting everyone to participate regardless of their beliefs. The kindness can be as simple as a small favor or as significant as a major act of service. You can choose to be recognized for your good deeds or remain anonymous.

Simple Acts of Kindness

There are countless ways to make a difference on Be An Angel Day. Here are some ideas:

  • Do a Favor: Help a friend with a task or offer to run an errand.
  • Write a Letter: Send a heartfelt note to an elderly relative who might appreciate some extra attention.
  • Donate to a Food Bank: Bring extra cans of food to your local food bank.
  • Support a Friend in Need: Offer your support to someone going through a tough time. Your kindness could be the boost they need.

Getting Kids Involved

Children can be wonderful participants in Be An Angel Day. They love to dress up and can spread joy in many ways:

  • Visit the Elderly: Kids can entertain residents at a nursing home or visit a children’s hospital with goody bags. Capture these moments with photos to remember the joy they bring.
  • Help Animals: Encourage your children to collect pet food to donate to a local Humane Society or animal shelter.

Welcoming Neighbors

Consider extending a warm welcome to new neighbors:

  • Bring Food: Take a meal or bake a cake to help ease the stress of moving.
  • Offer Assistance: Help them get settled by offering to assist with unpacking or showing them around the neighborhood.

The Gift of Service

Many elderly people need help with everyday tasks. Use Be An Angel Day to offer your assistance:

  • Yard Work and Repairs: Help with gardening or small household repairs.
  • Transportation: Offer to drive them to the grocery store or run errands together.

Make Someone’s Day Brighter

Whatever way you choose to lift your wings, your efforts will make someone’s day a little better. Acts of kindness, no matter how small, have the power to bring joy and relief. Be An Angel Day is a perfect reminder that we can all be angels in someone’s life.
