Melissa Ichiuji Studio Gallery Reopens With Two Fall Exhibitions

Published

on

Melissa Ichiuji Studio Gallery will reopen for its fall season Oct. 16 with two exhibitions exploring the natural world and the boundary between reality and imagination.

The gallery will celebrate the new season with opening receptions from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Both exhibitions will remain on view through Dec. 20.

The fall season features “Between Shores: The Promise and the Peril,” a group exhibition centered on water and nature, alongside “Familiar Elsewhere: Worlds on the Edge of Truth,” featuring drawings and paintings by Jody Mussoff and Olga Sushkova.

The opening receptions are open to everyone.

Exploring Water And The Natural World

“Between Shores: The Promise and the Peril” looks at water and the natural world as places of beauty and possibility while also considering their mystery and uncertainty.

The exhibition moves from tranquil shorelines and natural forms to unknown depths and unusual inhabitants.

At its center is the changing character of nature — the forces that shape the world, reveal what is hidden and sometimes leave things adrift.

The group exhibition brings together work by 12 artists: Janet Brome, Megan Caldwell, Joan Danziger, Janis Goodman, Melissa Ichiuji, Mac McIntyre, Craig McPherson, Ron Paras, Keith Patterson, Bob Petersen, Elena Rousseau and Alexandra N. Sherman.

Rather than approaching nature from a single perspective, the collection allows the participating artists to consider its beauty, wonder, possibility, and potential danger through their individual work.

“Between Shores” will be on display from Oct. 16 through Dec. 20.

Familiar Forms Become Imagined Worlds

A second exhibition opening the same evening takes visitors in a different direction.

“Familiar Elsewhere: Worlds on the Edge of Truth” brings together drawings and paintings by Jody Mussoff and Olga Sushkova.

Presented in Gallery II, the exhibition begins with recognizable forms but moves toward imagined places shaped by memory, longing and possibility.

The works explore that space where something can appear familiar without belonging entirely to the world viewers know.

“Familiar Elsewhere” will also run from Oct. 16 through Dec. 20.

Together, the two exhibitions open a new season of shows, gatherings and events at Melissa Ichiuji Studio Gallery.

Visitors can meet at the gallery for the joint opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16. Both exhibitions continue through Dec. 20.
