Baseball Returns to Bing Crosby Stadium, Cardinals Host Cannons Saturday Night

After a rain-soaked delay on Friday night, baseball is set to make a strong return to Bing Crosby Stadium as the Front Royal Cardinals take the field against the Purcellville Cannons on Saturday, May 31, at 7 p.m.

The Cardinals were originally scheduled to open their 2025 home season on Friday, May 30, against the Woodstock River Bandits. However, persistent rain forced a postponement. That game has now been rescheduled for Sunday, June 9, giving fans another chance to see their team in action later this season.

Saturday’s game marks the official start of home play for the Cardinals and the return of Valley Baseball League excitement to Front Royal. The Purcellville Cannons will provide the first test of the summer for a Cardinals team eager to compete in front of a home crowd.

Organizers and team officials are encouraging fans to come out in full force to support the local team. “This is an event you don’t want to miss,” a team representative said. “There’s something special about baseball under the lights at Bing Crosby Stadium. It’s a hometown tradition, and we’re thrilled to welcome fans back.”

The Front Royal Cardinals are part of the storied Valley Baseball League, a long-running collegiate summer league that showcases top college talent from across the country. For many players, it’s a key step on the path toward professional baseball.

Saturday night’s game offers more than just nine innings of action—it’s also a chance for the community to reconnect. From families with young children to longtime fans who’ve been coming for decades, Cardinals games are a celebration of summer and small-town spirit.

The game begins at 7 p.m., with gates opening earlier for fans who want to claim their seats and grab ballpark concessions. The team and stadium staff are preparing for a strong turnout, and fans are encouraged to arrive early.

For those unable to attend in person, the game will be broadcast live on the Royal Examiner, providing a way for the broader community to follow along with the Cardinals’ 2025 season.

Despite the rainout on Friday, spirits remain high, and anticipation is building. Saturday’s matchup against the Cannons is expected to deliver all the intensity, energy, and heart that fans have come to expect.

“Let’s pack the stands and show our support for the Cardinals,” one fan said. “This team represents our town, and they deserve to hear us cheering them on every step of the way.”

With a fresh season underway and a stadium full of hopeful fans, the Cardinals are ready to swing for a strong start at home. Whether you’re a longtime supporter or a first-time visitor, the return of baseball to Bing Crosby Stadium promises a night of community, excitement, and America’s favorite pastime.
