Pot o’ Gold Shamrock Hunt Returns to Downtown Front Royal for Sixth Year

Published

on

Downtown Front Royal is once again turning green with the return of the Pot o’ Gold Shamrock Hunt, a free, family-friendly event now celebrating its sixth year.

The popular community activity invites residents and visitors to explore Main Street while searching for shamrock clues posted in the windows of participating local businesses. Organized by Jig ’n’ Jive Dance Studio, with support from National Media Services and dozens of downtown merchants, the hunt is expected to bring more than 500 participants to the downtown area between March 6 and March 17.

Participants begin by picking up a hunt map at several locations, including Jig ’n’ Jive Dance Studio, C & C Frozen Treats, the Front Royal Visitor Center, or Play Favorites. Armed with a pencil and a bit of curiosity, hunters follow the map to locate shamrock clues placed in business windows.

Each clue contains words or numbers that complete a message on the map. Once participants gather all the clues and fill in the message template, they submit their completed map with contact information to Jig ’n’ Jive Dance Studio, Play Favorites, or C & C Frozen Treats by St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.

The Main Street portion of the hunt typically takes about 45 minutes at a relaxed pace, making it an easy outing for families and visitors alike.

For those who want to expand their search, a Bonus Loop includes businesses located on Jackson, South Royal, Water, and South streets. While the loop can be walked, organizers say it is often easier to complete with a vehicle.

Participants do not have to finish the hunt in one outing. Shamrock clues remain visible 24 hours a day from March 6 through March 17, allowing hunters to return and finish the challenge at their own pace.

After the hunt ends, completed maps will be sorted into three age groups: children (0–11), teens (12–20), and adults (21 and older). A drawing will be held at the Jig ’n’ Jive Dance Studio on or before March 20, with multiple winners selected from each group. Participants who complete both the Main Street hunt and the Bonus Loop will have additional chances to win.

Winners will be notified by email or text message, and their names will also be published by the Royal Examiner. Prizes can be picked up during studio business hours through April 1.

Organizers say one of the most meaningful aspects of the event is that every prize is donated by Front Royal’s local businesses.

“This is not a fundraiser or a corporate event,” organizers said. “It’s simply a way for our small-town businesses to say hello and welcome the community to downtown.”

Dozens of businesses are participating in the hunt, including shops, restaurants, galleries and entertainment venues throughout the downtown area.

For many residents, the annual hunt has become a beloved St. Patrick’s season tradition, offering a chance to explore downtown, support local businesses and enjoy a bit of festive fun.

As organizers like to remind participants: Happy hunting! ☘️
