Laurel Ridge Hosting STEM Week April 14–18 at Middletown Campus
Laurel Ridge Community College is inviting the public to join them for STEM Week, a full schedule of fun and educational events focused on science, technology, engineering, and math. The event takes place April 14–18 at the college’s Middletown Campus and includes guest speakers, hands-on activities, and student projects.
“STEM Week is designed to showcase our college’s exceptional STEM programs and highlight the diverse career opportunities in fields like engineering, technology, science, mathematics, and data science,” said Ia Gomez, Dean of Science, Integrated Technology, Engineering, and Math at Laurel Ridge.
The week will feature presentations by scientists and professionals, a student STEM fair, and career panels with former Laurel Ridge students and experts working in the field. One highlight includes a talk from Dr. Brad Timm, a wildlife ecologist and author who specializes in amphibian conservation.
Attendees will also hear from Laurel Ridge graduates now working in engineering, medical professionals, and college transfer experts who will share advice on how students can get involved in research early in their academic careers.
The event is being organized by Professor Ann Simpson (Anatomy and Physiology) and Professor Cody Fouts (Mathematics), who are excited to bring the community together to celebrate STEM.
“I’ve always wanted to have a STEM Week at the college,” said Professor Simpson. “We have so many talented students who go on to do amazing things in the medical field and beyond. STEM careers are growing fast, and jobs in areas like robotics, environmental engineering, and healthcare are in high demand.”
She also pointed out that jobs in STEM often offer higher pay and more career growth than other fields.
Professor Fouts added that many students show interest in STEM but aren’t always sure what kind of careers are available.
“I’m hoping this week of events helps students connect what they’re learning in class with real careers,” he said. “We’re also excited to bring in some of our university partners to talk about transfer programs and opportunities.”

Whether you’re a student, parent, teacher, or just someone curious about science and technology, Laurel Ridge’s STEM Week is a great way to explore what’s possible—and get inspired for the future.
