Liberty Man to speak at Restoration Fellowship Church
Abel Johnston-Liberty Man will speak at Restoration Fellowship Church in Strasburg Sunday, November 5 at 11am. Veterans will be honored. The Rev. Larry W. Johnson will talk about Valley Forge-The Crisis. The story will unfold by presenting the story in the words of the soldiers. Abel will appear in period dress.
Abel Johnston-Liberty Man is portrayed by the Rev. Larry Wilson Johnson, an Anglican bishop, who lives in Warren County, Virginia. For a number of years he has been telling the true stories of his great(x4) grandfather who fought in the American Revolution. The presentation will focus on the terrible times our revolutionary soldiers suffered in December, January, February, and March in 1777-1778 at Valley Forge 240 years ago. Without a miracle the Revolution would have been lost.
The story will be of particular interest to local citizens since the Rev. Peter Muhlenberg, a local minister, was there with his soldiers at Valley Forge. Peter was a young local pastor in Strasburg when he formed a regiment of men form this area and marched off to fight for American Independence. They assembled at the intersection of the present old court house in Woodstock on January 21, 1776. His regiment consisted of 300 local residents all from this immediate area.
Nearly 3000 of General George Washington’s troops died from starvation and disease at Valley Forge. Abel will bring the story to life in soldiers own words as discovered in their diaries and letters.
Larry has written a booklet, Valley Forge-The Crisis that contains his presentation with pictures of these perilous and tragic experiences. His program and book tells how the soldiers’ determination laid a foundation for our ultimate victory for American Independence. A Miracle un-reported by historians will be revealed and unknown by most people today. His booklet will be available at the service. Liberty Man will autograph books for those who request this.
