Open Air Burning Banned in Front Royal and Warren County Due to Drought
As of Friday, November 1, 2024, all forms of open-air burning have been prohibited across Front Royal and Warren County. This emergency action comes from the Warren County Fire Marshal, Gerry R. Maiatico, citing extreme drought and hazardous atmospheric conditions as reasons for the restriction. Following the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code, the ban will remain in effect until further notice.
Residents should note that the ban covers a wide range of fire activities, including bonfires, camping fires, ceremonial fires, and burning debris in barrels. However, the regulation does not restrict barbecue grills, smokers, or other cooking equipment that funnels smoke through a chimney or stack. This careful exception allows for safe cooking practices while still addressing wildfire risk.
The decision comes as local officials closely monitor weather patterns, significantly reducing regional moisture levels and raising fears of fast-spreading fires. Warren County’s emergency services urge everyone to respect the order, as breaking it can carry severe penalties and endanger lives and property.
Residents are advised to monitor local government announcements for updates on this and other public safety alerts.
