Paul Sheppard Savidge III, of Linden, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, at The Villas of Suffield Meadows in Warrenton, Virginia. He was 83 years old.

Paul Sheppard Savidge III

Born on October 14, 1941, in Tacoma, Washington, Paul, the son of the late Paul Sheppard Savidge Jr. and Cornelia Marie (Cardin) Savidge. He experienced the loss of his mother at age twelve and was later lovingly raised by his devoted stepmother, Helen Mary Savidge. He grew up alongside his siblings—brothers Peter and Patrick Savidge and sister Margaret McPhillips.

Following a proud family tradition of military service inspired by his father, a veteran of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, Paul served honorably in the United States Army. During his service in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces. He was honorably discharged as a Major in 1978.

After his military service, Paul continued his commitment to public service as a government contractor with the U.S. Department of Treasury. Known for his diligence and integrity, he retired with a deep sense of accomplishment.

Paul was a deeply patriotic man. The events of September 11, 2001, which he experienced firsthand while in Washington, D.C., had a lasting impact on him. He carried that sense of national pride and responsibility into his community life. He supported organizations such as the Boys & Girls Clubs and the Henry & William Evans Home for Children in Winchester, Virginia. He was also a passionate member of the amateur radio community and served for many years as the primary National Weather Service SKYWARN operator for Northern Virginia.

A man of many talents, Paul was an avid photographer. Alongside his wife, Barbara, he co-owned Reflexions Photography, specializing in portrait, nature, and fine art photography.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Barbara; his children, Paul Savidge IV, and Angela Savidge; his stepchildren, Rebecca Moore Rooney, Alan Moore, and Robert Moore; and nine cherished grandchildren. The family also wishes to acknowledge Paul’s dear friend, John Norman, a fellow veteran, for his enduring camaraderie and care during Paul’s later years.

Paul will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery, a fitting tribute to a life of service, dedication, and love.
