Animal shelter cash award announced ahead of April 9 membership meeting
A welcome and unexpected cash award arrived at the Julia Wagner Animal Shelter just a few days ahead of the annual meeting of the Humane Society of Warren County (HSWC) at Bowling Green Country Club on Tuesday, April 9.
Not a large award ($807) but nevertheless a welcome and important one, said shelter executive director Meghan Bowers, and earmarked for a specific purpose – to help facilitate the adoption of senior pets.

Appropriately identified as a Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant, it came from the Petfinder Foundation and may be used only to help older pets become adoptable by helping fund any of the following: adoption fees, transportation to the adopter, and assistance with medication costs during the pet’s life time.
HSWC posts its adoptable pets at www.PetFinder.com/Shelters/VA which serves 12,000 animal shelters and rescue groups. Since its founding 17 years ago, the Petfinder Foundation has given more than $20 million to shelters in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Doors will open at the membership dinner at 5:30 p.m. on April 9. Two current board members, HSWC president Ellen Aders, and Debbie Myers, will run for re-election.
