Children Activities by Samuels Public Library for the Month of October

These are the events being presented by the Youth Services Department at Samuels Public Library during the month of October 2025.  More information about Samuels Library and the programs and services available can be found at www.samuelslibrary.net or by calling (540) 635-3153.


Wednesday, October 1

  • Come in and get an entry form for our 47th Annual Holiday Writing Contest!  For grades K-12, including a category for special needs individuals.  Entries should be winter holiday themed stories, poems, or drawings.  Deadline is November 1st, with judging by local community volunteers, and a reception for winners in December.  Get creative!

Wednesday October 1

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time.

Come in for an enjoyable hour, with a special guest from the fire department, filled with Fire stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. You can even explore a fire truck! Registration is required.

Thursday, October 2

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time.

Come in for an enjoyable hour with Fire stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. Registration is required.

Saturday, October 4

  • 11:00 AM – Story Walk at Eastham Park with Warren County Fire Department.  October is Fire Safety Month so come read the new story, Lou by Breanna Carzoo, check out a fire truck, and do a craft!

Monday, October 6

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers (ages 2-5). 

Join our fun and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby or toddler. Registration is required.

Tuesday, October 7

  • 10:30 AM – Magnetic Ghosts: Homeschool Hub.  For ages 6-11.  Learn about magnetism, as we make ghosts fly. Registration is required.

Wednesday & Thursday, October 8 & 9

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time.
    Come in for an enjoyable hour filled with turtle stories, sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft.  Registration is required.
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time.
    Come in for an enjoyable hour with local author, Danny Barron, reading his story, Turtle’s Treacherous Trip.  We will have sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Registration is required.

Monday, October 13

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers (ages 2-5). 

Join our fun and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby or toddler. Registration is required.

Tuesday, October 14

  • 4:00 PM – Scavenger Hunt.  For ages 6-11.  Come hear detective stories and then go on a “hunt” to decode a message.  Registration is required.

There will be no story times on Oct 15 & 16

Saturday, October 18

  • 11:00 AM – Teen Advisory.  For ages 12-18. Want to have a voice in the programs we offer to teens? Come help us plan teen activities for the year.  Pizza and soda will be served. Registration is required.
  • 2:30 PM – ARC Positive Pumpkins.  For ages 5+ with guardian. Come learn positive ways to deal with stress and frustration, then create pumpkin stress balls.  Registration is required.

Monday, October 20

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers & Preschoolers (ages 2-5).

Tuesday, October 21

  • 10:30 AM – Mummy Gummies: Homeschool Hub. For ages 6-11.  Come hear mummy stories and learn about mummification and chemical reactions.  Registration is required.

Wednesday, October 22 & 23

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM – Read with the Sheriff Preschool Story Time (Wednesday only).

Come in for an enjoyable hour filled with Fall stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. Registration is required.

Monday, October 27

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers (ages 2-5).

Tuesday, October 28

  • 4:00 PM – Button Balloon.  For ages 6-11.  Come hear balloon stories and make a balloon picture with buttons!  Registration is required.

Wednesday, October 29 & 30

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM –Preschool Story Time.

Come in for an enjoyable hour filled with Halloween stories, exciting sing-alongs, finger plays, and a nifty craft. Registration is required.
