Dr. David Carter Blanton (1954 – 2022)

Dr. David Carter Blanton, 68, of Front Royal, VA died Friday, July 1, 2022, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Center due to respiratory complications.

David was born on January 13, 1954, in Winchester, the son of the late William Douglas and Louie Eldonia Morris Blanton.

Surviving is a daughter, Kirsten Blanton of Gainesville, and a brother, Gray Blanton of Front Royal. He is also survived by three nephews, Chris Peterson, Alex Blanton, and Devin Blanton, and their families.

Along with his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, William Douglas Blanton, Jr., and a sister, Cherry Blanton Peterson. David was also predeceased by his beloved Chihuahua, Tiger, by 12 hours. They will be interred together.

David graduated from Warren County High School in 1972 and then attended Randolph-Macon College. He completed his DDS degree in 1979 from the VCU-MCV School of Dentistry. He returned to Front Royal to open his own dental practice where he worked until his retirement in 2010.

As long as David’s health allowed he was an active member of Riverton United Methodist Church. He was the audio/visual technician for services as well as a participant in church grounds maintenance. Pastor Roberson said it was accurate to say he was Chief Sausage Gravy Preparer for church fundraising breakfasts. David was also an Officer of Elections in Front Royal.

The Blanton family owned Redskin season tickets for 30 years and David was an avid fan. He attended 1984, 1988, and 1992 Super Bowls.

There will be a memorial service for David on Friday, July 29th at Riverton United Methodist Church officiated by Rev. Marc Roberson at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service beginning at 12:00 pm. Interment will be immediately following the service at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Reception to follow at the church.

Rodney Duane Orndorff (1942 – 2024)

Rodney Duane Orndorff, 82, died on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal, Virginia.

Rod was born April 14, 1942, in Wardensville, West Virginia, to the late William Odell Orndorff, Sr. and Wilmetta Lee Webster Orndorff.

Rod graduated in 1960 from Wardensville High School. He was a Vietnam Veteran in the United States Army.

Rod worked at American Viscose/ Avtex until it closed in 1989. Then, he went to work at Atlantic Research in Gainsville, Virginia, where he worked until he retired in 2005 due to health problems.

Rod was a member of the Giles B. Cook American Legion Post 53 in Front Royal, the Front Royal Loyal Order of Moose Lodge Number 829, the VFW Post 2102 in Wardensville, the Page Valley Sports Men’s Association in Luray, Virginia, and the National Rifle Association.

Along with his parents, Rod was preceded in death by his brother, William Odell Orndorff Jr., and his brother’s wife, Janet Orndorff.

Surviving Rodney is his loving wife of 50 years, Edith D. Orndorff; one son, Duane Odell Orndorff of Front Royal; one grandson, Dallas Odell Orndorff, and wife Lyndsey; one great-grandson, Jaxson Odell Orndorff; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Claire Orndorff all of Strasburg, Virginia; his two sisters, Lydia Hott (Jerry) and Ann Holliday (Ronnie) all of Wardensville; a brother-in-law, Billy Dainty (Cynthia) of Front Royal; a sister-in-law, Phyllis Dainty (George Mulligan) of Luray, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. Rod’s pastimes were hunting, fishing, and skeet shooting.

The funeral will be held at 11 A.M. on Monday, April 22, 2024, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W Main St, Front Royal, Virginia 22630, with Sammy Campbell officiating and a visitation to take place an hour prior. Following all services, the burial will take place at Ninevah Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 5872 Winchester Rd, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.

Pallbearers will be Peter Roy, Justin Miller, Carl Thompson, Ron Galvin, David Strickler, and Kris Holliday.

The honorary pallbearer will be Ricky Crawford.

Leah Kristen Martin (1976 – 2024)

Leah Kristen Martin, 47, of Linden, Virginia, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Warren Memorial Hospital.

Leah was born to William and Suzan Hazen Dooly on July 27, 1976, in Washington, DC.  She was preceded in death by her son, John Martin.  Leah was a graduate of Old Dominion University and taught at Diversified Minds in Front Royal, Virginia.  She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.

Surviving along with her parents are her daughter, Kiely Martin; son, Joseph Martin; two sisters, Joy Fletcher and Lydia Dooly; and numerous extended family members and close family friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19856 Evergreen Mills Road, Leesburg, Virginia, 20175, with the Rev. Dr. George C. Hammond officiating. The Service will be at 11:00 am in the Sanctuary, followed by a Celebration of Life in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations in Leah’s honor can be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, Leesburg.

Ressie Mae McClary (1950 – 2024)

Ressie Mae McClary, 74, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away at Winchester Medical Center on Monday, April 15, 2024.

A graveside service will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 581 Mount Carmel Road, Buckhannon, West Virginia 26201, with Reverend Paul Campbell officiating.

Ressie was born to the late George and Freda Herring on January 15, 1950, in Buckhannon, West Virginia. Her sisters, Georgia Ann Pounds and Judy Kay Allen, also preceded her in death.

Surviving Ressie are her loving husband of 55 years, Charles McClary Jr.; her son, David McClary; her sisters, Linda Lou Griffith of Alexandria, VA; and Lois Sue Herring of Front Royal, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ressie loved life and its splendors; she sang, read, wrote poetry, solved puzzles, and listened to music. She was involved in many gospel choirs and was a Hamilton Church of God member. She also enjoyed talking to people, she would always keep in touch with her friends and loved ones, and would remember to pray for everyone in her community.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Nellie C. Morris (1921 – 2024)

Nellie C. Morris, 102, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at her home in Front Royal.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery, with Sammy Campbell officiating.

Mrs. Morris was born November 9, 1921, in Warren County, Virginia, the daughter of the late James M. Craig and Nellie Ritenour Craig.

She was a graduate of Warren County High School and attended Hunter College in New York. She was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having trained for the Navy Hospital Corps at Bethesda Naval Hospital during World War II. She served as a PHm2C.

Mrs. Morris was a charter member of the Front Royal Jaycettes, the Warren Heritage Society, and a lifetime Front Royal Presbyterian Church member. She retired after many dedicated years from VPI & SV Extension Service.

She was married to the late Thomas W. “Sonny” Morris, Sr., for over 50 years before his passing in 1991.

Surviving are three sons, Thomas W. “Tom” Morris, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Richard A. Morris (Bertha) of Front Royal and Craig A. Morris, Sr. (Crystal) of Front Royal; one sister, Peggy Fincham of Front Royal; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, James Craig and Albert Craig.

Anne Virginia Guy Palmer (1934 – 2024)

Anne Virginia Guy Palmer, 89, of Bentonville, Virginia, passed away suddenly at her home on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Maddox Funeral Home, with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Guy-Fristoe Family Cemetery in Bentonville.

Anne was born August 23, 1934, in Bentonville, Virginia, the daughter of the late Byron Fristoe Guy and Irma Virginia Chrisman Guy.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Byron “Buddy” Guy; daughter, Katherine “Kate” Hupman; son-in-law, Michael Hupman; step-grandson, Joshua Shane Leggett; and her companion, Larry Sklamberg.

Surviving is her daughter, Jacqueline Guy Leggett, and husband Willie; grandson, Robert Hupman, and wife Rita; great-grandchildren, Shenandoah Katherine Hupman and Ridge Michael Guy Hupman; longtime friends, Sandi and Wayne Ring; and her two cats, Minnie and Blue.

Anne retired from the General Services Administration after a successful career in a male-dominated environment and later from Federal Program Management.

She enjoyed auctions, antiques, shooting and reloading, and family and friends on the river, as well as at her home.  Many will remember her annual pig roasts. Her door was always open to friends and family.

Anthony Ring, Steve Cullers, Victor Morrison, Glen Martin, Bill Britz, and Thomas Lockhart will be pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Ring, David Ring, James Guy, Rocky Rosenberry, and Ira Fristoe.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 11, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donna Leigh Burke (Williams) (1984 – 2024)

Donna Leigh Burke (Williams), 39, of Front Royal, VA, passed away peacefully at Winchester Medical Center on April 2, 2024, due to health complications, with family by her side and her wonderful husband telling her how much she and their kids loved her and reassuring her that they would be okay.

Donna was born November 27, 1984, to the late Jerry Martin Williams and Nancy Wines Williams of Chester Gap, VA, where they lived and raised Donna in her family home.  She received her GED from Rappahannock County, VA.  Donna was a proud and devoted daughter, wife, and mother.

Donna leaves behind her dedicated husband of 17 years, Joseph Burke (Joe); their two greatest accomplishments – Damion Martin Burke, 17, and Khloe Janelle Burke, 14, of Front Royal, VA; her two sisters-in-law, Felicia Burke of Front Royal, VA and Ashly Burke of Maurertown, VA; one nephew, Owen Armstrong, of Maurertown, VA and her in-laws, Vincent Burke, Jr., and Denise Burke of Front Royal, VA.  She also leaves multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, and childhood friends from Rappahannock County, VA.

A celebration of life will follow at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions (for the children) may be made to any First Bank location.  In addition, anyone who would like to shower the family with love and support can mail cards to the Burke Family at 1896 Edgemont Avenue, Front Royal, VA  22630.
