Temporary Odor Expected as Town Performs Wastewater Maintenance
Residents in Front Royal may notice an unusual smell in the air the week of July 14–18, as the town’s wastewater treatment plant undergoes routine maintenance.
The town’s Public Works Department has announced that it will replace the wood media in the odor control unit connected to the facility’s digested sludge tanks. This type of maintenance is standard and necessary to keep the system operating effectively.
While the work may result in temporary abnormal odors, officials stress that there is no health risk to residents or pets. The odor may be more noticeable in neighborhoods near the wastewater treatment facility, but it is expected to be short-lived.
“We appreciate everyone’s understanding as we perform this routine but important maintenance,” the department said in a public notice. “Our goal is always to minimize inconvenience while ensuring the long-term health of the system.”
Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to call the Public Works Department during business hours, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at 540-635-7819.
