Town Council proclaims ‘Front Royal Little League Day’
August 13 was proclaimed “Front Royal Little League Day” by the Front Royal Town Council at its evening meeting on Monday, August 13. And while there were only about 4-1/2 hours left of the day to celebrate the designation by the time it occurred, Little League players, officials and parents filling the Warren County Government Center meeting room didn’t seem to mind.
Council unanimously approved a Proclamation establishing the designation in recognition of the Front Royal Little League All-Stars advancement to the 2018 Virginia State Tournament.
The Front Royal’s 2018 Little Leaguers were acknowledged for their State District 3 Tournament Championship earned by way of a 4-1 win over Grottoes. That win qualified the team for the State Tournament appearance and a chance to play into the Little League Regionals and a shot at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
But if this year’s team didn’t make it to Williamsport, the 1953 team that did was remembered in the opening sentence of the proclamation read into the town council record of August 13, 2018. That 1953 team went on to record the first win in newly-established international play that year and earned a place in the Little League World Series Hall of Fame for their efforts in notching a third-place finish.
Congratulations to the 2018 Front Royal Little Leaguers for their accomplishments in continuing Front Royal’s “baseball town” legacy – and thanks to that 1953 team for the memories.
