Mary Helen “Nanny” Spires Johnt, 72, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Winchester Medical Center, surrounded by her loved ones.

Mary was born on February 21, 1954, in Alamo, Georgia, to the late Vester Spires and her mother, Mary Etta Dover Spires. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Russell Johnt; her sister, Rochelle Killiebrew; and two brothers, Sylvester and Raymond Spires.

Mary is survived along with her mother by her loving children, Kristin Johnt Payne and Karen Johnt; her son-in-law, Chris Payne; her sisters, Marilynn (Donald) Brown, Jennifer (Keith) Shepherd; her brother, Ronald (Belinda) Spires; her grandchildren, Shey Payne, Lilith Payne, and Gemma Payne; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary graduated from Wilcox County High School in 1972. Mary loved her crafting hobbies. She would spend her free time painting, crocheting, cross-stitching, and card-making. She also enjoyed her genealogy work.
