Townwide Fire Hydrant Flushing Notice

Published

on

The Town will be conducting fire hydrant flushing throughout the community from April 28 through May 9, 2025, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Hydrant flushing is essential for maintaining water quality, removing deposit buildup in the water lines, and checking the mechanical operation of fire hydrants. This bi-annual maintenance improves both water service and fire protection. Performing the work during daytime hours also allows crews to complete minor hydrant repairs as needed.

What to Expect:

  • You may experience periods of low water pressure and/or water discoloration during flushing.

  • If your water appears discolored, run your cold-water tap until the water clears.

  • Avoid washing clothes and limit hot water use until the cold water runs clear.

Please use caution:
Hydrant flushing may cause water to accumulate on roadways. Motorists are asked to drive carefully in affected areas.

For questions or concerns, please contact the Department of Public Works at (540) 635-7819, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
