CHICAGO, IL — United Airlines resumed operations Sunday night after a computer problem temporarily grounded all domestic mainline flights several earlier.
“The ground stop has been lifted,” the airline announced on Twitter shortly after 9:00 p.m. “We’re working to get flights on their way. We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers.”
United initially grounded all domestic mainline flights Sunday evening because of a computer problem, according to United Airlines spokesperson Maddie King.
“We have issued a ground stop for all domestic mainline flights due to an IT issue,” King previously said. “We apologize for the inconvenience to our customers.”
This seems to be an increasingly common problem for airlines these days. Three months ago, United flights were delayed for hours due to a computer problem, which lit up social media.
United said that October outage was an issue with its weight reporting system which was later resolved.
In September, British Airways suffered a computer problem that caused delays and long lines at airports in the United States and Europe.
In August, Delta canceled about 2,000 flights after a major system failure. Earlier in the summer, an outage caused more than 1,000 cancellations at Southwest Airlines.
