Wayne Edward Cameron (1945 – 2026)
Wayne Edward Cameron, 80, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026.
Born on November 27, 1945, Wayne spent his formative years among the fields, mountains, and streams of rural Front Royal, Virginia—an upbringing that shaped his strength, resilience, and love of country.
At the age of twenty-one, when the United States entered the Vietnam War, Wayne enlisted to serve his nation. He went on to complete multiple combat tours, serving with distinction and valor. His military service concluded in 1970 after he was seriously wounded in combat on his final tour. After surviving his injuries, Wayne returned home to Front Royal and transitioned to civilian life.
In recognition of his exemplary service, Wayne received numerous honors and decorations, including the National Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device (60), three Overseas Service Bars, and Marksman Badge (M14).
Wayne’s civilian life included work in the private sector in printing, followed by twenty years of Federal service with the United States government. He retired in 2004.
On June 22, 1985, Wayne married the love of his life, Susie Fishback, at Broad Run Baptist Church in Baltimore, Virginia. Over the course of forty-one years of marriage, Wayne and Susie navigated life’s challenges together, building a strong, caring, and devoted partnership.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Susie V. Cameron; his son, David Cameron; and his grandson, Timothy Cameron.
Wayne will be remembered as a true hero who fought and bled for his country, a valued colleague, and a strong, intelligent, and devoted husband and father. He will be deeply missed and forever held in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
