The Cracked Acorn: Peace

Published

on

In circa 2000s,  I received a telephone call from a boyhood schoolmate. We have managed to stay in touch over the years. I was happy to hear from him. He had a new job and his own boss, so he was not stressed. We talked about the Washington metro area problems, crime and traffic and the rising housing and gasoline costs. I sensed that we were beginning to narrow in on a particular subject and maybe the reason for his contacting me.

It was the old story of sibling family problems, the care of an aging parent, and confusion about the family farm. I listened and suggested that he talk to his minister, not act too hasty, and, above all, to pray about this difficult time in his life.  When I hung up the phone, an echo from the scriptures was very close to what he had said.

Someone from the crowd said to Him, “Master, order my brother to divide the inheritance and share it with me.” But Jesus told him, “Man, who has appointed Me a judge or umpire and divider over you?” Luke 12:13,14.

Jesus was not distracted but went on to give the parable of the rich man (16-20) and called him a fool, for on this very night, his soul would be called to give account;  there’s a short duration of things. (28); and avoid what the world seeks (30); instead, seek the unfailing and inexhaustible treasure in the heavens (34) and let us be waiting, prepared, our lamps burning, for the master to return (36). So, let us be focused and pray to see clearly that love and forgiveness stand tall over all our worldly cares.

The preceding has been on a small floppy for years and now has risen via a search and revive mission.  The brothers who had the farm problem have passed on.  Time provided its’ usual solution, sometimes even PEACE!

People say they want to climb Mt. Everest – it is possible these days! Or travel or settle down and view science, maybe find peace for the world to see. Don’t wait, do it now!

The “Peace Song”
“Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me;
let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be,
With God as our Father, brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me; let this be the moment now.
With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow;
to take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.”
