Town Tip Thursday, A WHAT MATTERS Initiative

Ugandan School Construction Begins Tomorrow with Seed Money from the WHAT MATTERS $5k Match Campaign held in December.

Supporters of WHAT MATTERS initiatives all over the US have provided the seed money to start a school in a remote village in Africa! Construction begins tomorrow and I’ll be there to show donors first-hand what their dollars given in December to the WHAT MATTERS $5k Match Campaign are doing to change lives through Light up Life Foundations, a NGO in Uganda.

Learn about Herbie Light Up at www.lightuplifefoundations.com

This trip is not a fundraising trip, my WHAT MATTERS Initiative on this journey across the globe is to show each of the generous contributors from the $5k match just what their donations are about to do. I sent my $5k portion of the match last year but found that the fees and exchange rate were enormous when sending the money from abroad. So last month, I decided to plan a trip to carry the $5k in matched donations back here myself so that every dollar could reach Its intended destination.

The day after Easter, I strapped $2,500 to each hip and headed to the airport. Needless to say, I was thrilled to to hand over the $5,000 to Herbie and team.Tomorrow, we are headed back to Bunyaade to the remote village where Herbie’s father was born, an area he has dreamed of helping to make some lasting change. His first time back after burying his brother (who was stabbed in 2011) was with us during the December mission project during the $5k match campaign. We fed and brought supplies to 600+ children while he and the Light up Life team scouted to see what they could do to help most.

In the past months since the trip there, the team has been working on plans to build an actual school (the “school” they have been using has no roof or walls and is smaller than the size of a traditional American bedroom. Tomorrow, we’ll make the three hour trip back, and I’ll be documenting the start of the dream project that each of the donors has helped to make a reality.

Thank to everyone who has supported Light up LIfe Foundations and for trusting me to be a good steward of your donations. There are no words or videos to describe what an impact every dollar makes here nor what divine-inspired caretakers the LUL team is of the funds they receive to carry out their mission. I’ve never in my life met more grateful people.

I’m transitioning WHAT MATTERS into an official 501c3 nonprofit so that in the future we can together make even more of an impact while giving donors the tax deductions they deserve.

Start tuned for reports about the progress.  We hope you know how what tremendous difference supporters have made in inspiring this school and providing the $5k seed money to start the project. Literally, the exact dollars from the December GOFUND ME match were carried around my waste to the other side of the world and exchanged in a bank here this week to use as funds to buy construction materials. I’m so honored to be here to show you first hand what YOUR dollars are doing across the globe.

GOD BLESS everyone who has supported and continues to support the missions of Light up Life for your generosity……WHAT MATTERS is your heart…and you sure LET IT!
