Warren County High School’s Creative Fundraiser: Shoes for a Cause
In an inspiring move to support student and teacher initiatives, Warren County High School’s Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter in Front Royal, Virginia, is stepping up with an innovative fundraiser. From February 22 to April 2, 2024, the school will be running a shoe drive to collect gently worn, new, and used shoes. This isn’t just any fundraiser; it’s a mission to make a difference both locally and globally.
FCCLA is no stranger to making an impact. This student-led organization, deeply rooted in the Family and Consumer Science Curriculum, has a history of engaging in meaningful community service. From aiding local elementary schools and supporting ill students with their medical bills to celebrating the dedication of teachers and staff, FCCLA members have consistently shown their commitment to their community.
The upcoming shoe drive takes their efforts to an international level. Partnering with Funds2Orgs, a social enterprise focused on supporting micro-entrepreneurs in developing countries, the collected shoes will be the cornerstone of a fundraising effort that benefits not only the Warren County High School FCCLA chapter but also families across the globe. Funds2Orgs will pay the chapter based on the total weight of the shoes collected, turning every pair donated into support for FCCLA’s projects and activities.
This initiative is not just about fundraising; it’s about providing economic opportunities and support to those in need worldwide. The shoes collected will find new life through Funds2Orgs’ network, aiding small business owners in developing countries to sustain and grow their enterprises. These efforts can lead to significant changes in communities, such as enabling a mother in Haiti to send her son to law school.
Sue Kelly, the FCCLA Advisor at Warren County High School, encapsulates the sentiment of the drive, emphasizing the dual benefit of the fundraiser. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for our FCCLA Chapter, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone,” Kelly states.
This shoe drive is an excellent opportunity for the community to clear out their closets for a cause. By donating shoes, participants can directly contribute to the success of local students and teachers while making a tangible difference in the lives of families thousands of miles away. The Warren County High School FCCLA chapter invites everyone to join them in this rewarding endeavor. Stay tuned for more information on how you can participate and make a positive impact.
Let’s come together and make this shoe drive a monumental success!
