Governor Youngkin Launches Emergency Response for Fires in Page County
To combat the wildfires raging in Page County and its neighboring areas, Governor Glenn Youngkin and state legislators and local leaders have spearheaded a Regional Emergency Response Effort. This initiative aims to bolster the firefighting capabilities in the region, providing much-needed relief and resources.
As wildfires continue to threaten the peace and safety of Page County, Governor Youngkin’s administration has acted promptly, deploying fuel trucks and other resources to the affected areas overnight. This swift action marks the beginning of a comprehensive support strategy designed to assist the brave men and women on the front lines of this battle against nature’s fury.
Recognizing the tireless efforts of local firefighters, who have been working round the clock to contain the blazes, the governor announced the arrival of additional volunteer firefighter forces. These reinforcements are intended to provide some much-needed rest for the weary, showcasing a community united in the face of adversity.

Moreover, Governor Youngkin has confirmed the deployment of Recovery Support Teams through the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM). These teams are set to collaborate with local authorities today to commence damage assessments, a critical step in the recovery process. A Logistics Support team is also being mobilized to assist Page County and the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) in addressing further resource requirements.
The governor emphasized that while the focus is currently on Page County, efforts are being coordinated to ensure that the surrounding areas, including Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, and Shenandoah, also have access to necessary resources. This regional approach highlights the commitment to a unified and effective response to wildfires.
Since Wednesday, the Virginia Department of Forestry, the Department of Emergency Management, and the State Police have played pivotal roles in orchestrating a united front against the fires.
