Virginia State Police Seeks Public Help in Fauquier County Hit-and-Run Investigation

Virginia State Police are urging the public to assist in identifying two vehicles involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a 73-year-old pedestrian on Friday evening, November 8.

The tragic incident occurred at approximately 5:47 p.m. on Route 806 (Elk Run Road) near Flippo Lane. Garland J. Heddings, a resident of Catlett, was crossing Route 806 eastbound when he was struck by a northbound SUV. Moments later, a southbound vehicle also hit Heddings. Both drivers fled the scene without stopping to assist or call for help.

Heddings was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities believe the first vehicle involved is a 2001-2003 silver Nissan Frontier, which likely sustained front-end and driver-side damage. The second vehicle remains unidentified but is also expected to have damage to its front end.

This is the type of vehicle the state police is looking to locate.

The crash remains under investigation, and police are appealing to anyone who may have seen the incident or the vehicles involved to come forward.

Those with information are encouraged to contact Virginia State Police Senior Trooper J. Tanner at 540-347-6200 or via email at questions@vsp.virginia.gov.

The Virginia State Police emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving this case and providing closure to the family of the victim.
