Fussell Florist Celebrates Grand Reopening with Ribbon Cutting

Fussell Florist, a cherished local business, celebrated its grand reopening on Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the completion of its summer renovations. Owned and operated by siblings Katie Bonnett and James O’Donnell since 2021, the shop has become a staple in the community, blending tradition with fresh ideas. Katie’s two-year-old daughter, Emory, also joined the festivities, delighting attendees with her enthusiasm.

Mayor Lori Cockrell praised the sibling duo’s commitment to the town, describing their teamwork as “exciting and inspiring.” “I’m all about family, so I think it’s wonderful that you’ve come together for this,” Cockrell said. She also shared a personal connection to the shop, reminiscing about babysitting for the Fussell family years ago. “We’re excited that you’re investing in our community and giving people an opportunity to be happy because flowers—things like that—bring smiles to people’s faces. You get to do a pretty exciting job!”

Cockrell, reflecting on the importance of supporting local businesses, added, “When you go to a Little League game or a Parks and Rec event and see the logos on kids’ shirts, it’s not big box stores or corporations—it’s small businesses like Fussell Florist supporting our community.”

Board of Supervisors Chair Cheryl Cullers echoed Cockrell’s sentiments, emphasizing small businesses like Fussell Florist’s vital role in enriching the community. “I don’t know if people realize how much you give back,” Cullers said, noting the shop’s contributions to local events, such as table arrangements for community celebrations. “That’s just being a great community partner, and I appreciate that.”

Cullers also encouraged locals to visit the newly renovated shop, which she described as “absolutely gorgeous” and filled with the inviting aroma of fresh flowers.

Katie expressed gratitude for the warm reception she and James have received since taking over the business. “We love being a part of people’s lives, whether it’s for joyous occasions like weddings and new babies or reflective moments with loved ones,” she said. Katie also shared her excitement about her daughter Emory experiencing firsthand the shop’s community connection.

The shop’s recent updates include new flooring, fresh paint, additional shelving, and a state-of-the-art floral cooler designed to create a more inviting and efficient space—the grand reopening showcased holiday-themed items like candles, teas, and fresh and artificial floral arrangements. Fussell Florist also introduced a new membership program, offering perks such as discounts and a free flower with every visit.

With regular hours Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesdays) and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Fussell Florist remains a cornerstone of Front Royal. Mayor Cockrell perfectly summed up the day’s sentiment: “We’re so glad you’re here and chose us.”
