Looking Back, Looking Forward: A Reflection on Faith and the New Year

Published

on

As another year closes, it’s natural to reflect on the experiences that shaped us. In 2024, like every year before it, we cared for our physical needs—eating well, staying hydrated, and dressing for the seasons. Yet, there is a part of us that often goes neglected: the soul.

Genesis 2:7 reminds us that God formed man from the dust and gave him the “breath of life,” making him a living being. Our souls are as vital as our bodies, but how often do we nurture them?

God addressed this need by sending His only Son to save our souls. This truth—foundational to Christian belief—remains as powerful today as when it was first proclaimed. Yet, amid the distractions of daily life, it’s easy to overlook this gift.

Now, 2025 stands at the door, ready to be welcomed in. For many, New Year’s Eve is bittersweet. It’s a time to bid farewell to moments of joy, triumph, and even sorrow. Memories of 2024 are set to rest among the years gone by, but the new year brings something precious: hope.

As we look ahead, it’s natural to set resolutions. While some may aim for fitness or financial goals, consider one inspired by the timeless words of Arnulf of Leuven, a 13th-century poet:

“And should I fainting be, Lord, let me never, never outlive my love to Thee.”

This powerful sentiment serves as a beautiful reminder to prioritize our relationship with God in the months ahead. Through faith, prayer, and acts of goodwill, we can nurture our souls and be a light to those around us.

Let 2025 be a year of blessings, growth, and renewed dedication to what truly matters.
