What should you expect during your first massage?

Published

on

Regardless of the type of massage you opt for, the first session will follow a fairly standard structure.

After welcoming you, the therapist will likely get you to fill out a questionnaire and ask you a few questions regarding your overall health. This allows the practitioner to tailor the session to your needs. Let them know if you’d like them to avoid touching certain parts of your body. They’ll adapt the massage accordingly.

Once you’re ready, you’ll be given some privacy so you can undress for the massage. Take off any clothing that needs to be removed and lie down on the massage table while covering yourself with the provided sheet or towel.

During the massage, your therapist will check in with you to make sure that you’re comfortable. For example, they’ll likely verify that the temperature isn’t too cold or too warm and that they’re using adequate pressure.

After the first session, give your massage therapist some feedback. They’ll take it into consideration for your next visit. Enjoy!
