Long-time Rockland resident Mrs. Scottie Thomson, 90, will be honored for service to her community, Sunday, May 7, by the Front Royal Women’s Resource Center (FRWRC).

Her real name is Cliffie Scott Thomson but she’s been known as “Scottie” most of her adult life and is a revered member of her local community as well as a grower of an excellent brand of apples at her Golden Acres Orchard on Ashby Station Road.  She’s been in the business since 1965 when she and her Milldale, Warren County-born husband moved into the area from Washington, D.C.  The couple had four sons.

The historic house she lives in adjacent to the orchard is more than a century old.

Scottie once worked for the U.S. Department of Justice (Bureau of Prisons) in Washington prior to her marriage in 1951.  She continues today as bookkeeper for the Golden Acres Orchard.

Next weekend, in its third annual presentation of its “Spotlight on Women”, the FRWRC “heralds women whose dedication and strength of purpose assisted them in serving their community for many years.”

Scottie Thomson’s community service includes membership of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, the Warren County Hospital Board, and Friends of the Shenandoah River (charter member). She is one of the founders of Rockland Community Church.

The ceremony on May 7 will be at Front Royal’s First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall 3-5 p.m.  Says a FRWRC announcement: “The ceremony is open to the public. Please join us as we celebrate the life of this extraordinary community leader”
