For the Cats’ Sake Fall Market Returns to Front Royal Oct. 3

More than 40 vendors will gather in Front Royal on Saturday, Oct. 3, for a day of shopping, food, crafts, and community support—all to help area cats and kittens.

For the Cats’ Sake will hold its sixth annual Fall Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Front Royal Fire & Rescue Co. 1, 221 N. Commerce Ave. Admission is free.

The annual market is a fundraiser for For the Cats’ Sake, an all-volunteer nonprofit organization that rescues and fosters cats, provides veterinary care, helps find permanent homes, and works to reduce the number of homeless cats through spay-and-neuter and Trap-Neuter-Return programs.

This year’s market will feature more than 40 vendors, with additional spaces still available. Shoppers can expect handmade goods, clothing, home décor, pet products, crafts, services, and other items.

A bake sale will also be part of the day.

For the Cats’ Sake organizers say the market has become an important annual event for the organization, giving residents a chance to shop locally while learning more about the work being done for cats throughout the region.

Proceeds from the event will help cats and kittens in the communities the organization serves.

For the Cats’ Sake was founded in 2014 in Rappahannock County and focuses on reducing and stabilizing the area’s cat population. Its work now reaches across Virginia’s Piedmont region, including Culpeper, Fauquier, Rappahannock, and Warren counties.

Rather than focusing only on finding homes for cats after they enter rescue, the organization also works on prevention.

One effort is Trap-Neuter-Return, commonly known as TNR. The process involves humanely trapping community cats, spaying or neutering them, and returning them to their established outdoor homes. The organization also assists with spay-and-neuter services.

For cats that do enter its rescue program, volunteers provide foster homes and help arrange veterinary treatment before working to find appropriate permanent homes.

That work depends heavily on volunteers.

For the Cats’ Sake is an all-volunteer organization, and organizers say there are opportunities to help even for people who cannot foster animals or work directly with cats.

Some volunteer duties can be handled from home, allowing people with different schedules, interests, and physical abilities to contribute to the organization’s work.

The Fall Market is another way volunteers, businesses, vendors and shoppers can support those efforts.

Organizers are still accepting vendors for the Oct. 3 event and are particularly interested in hearing from food truck operators and other food vendors.

The market is located along a high-traffic area of North Commerce Avenue, and food has traditionally been available during the event. Organizers said they have not yet secured their usual number of food providers for this year’s market and hope additional vendors will participate.

There is no charge for food trucks to attend the event.

Other vendor spaces also remain available. Those interested in participating can apply through the vendor form provided by For the Cats’ Sake.

With more than 40 vendors already expected, organizers hope the sixth year of the market will build on previous events and provide shoppers with plenty to browse throughout the six-hour gathering.

The organization is promoting the market under the theme “Shop • Support • Save Lives,” connecting purchases and donations made during the event with its year-round animal welfare work.

For the Cats’ Sake is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Since its founding, the group has focused on long-term ways to address the number of cats needing assistance in the region while also helping individual animals through rescue, fostering, and veterinary care.

The organization relies on its network of volunteers to carry out that work, from caring for kittens and adult cats to assisting with TNR and other behind-the-scenes responsibilities.

Saturday’s market gives the public another way to participate without taking on a regular volunteer role. Visitors can shop from area vendors, pick up something from the bake sale, and support an organization working with cats throughout Warren County and neighboring communities.

The sixth annual For the Cats’ Sake Fall Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at Front Royal Fire & Rescue Co. 1, 221 N. Commerce Ave., in Front Royal.

Admission is free, and vendor spaces remain available.
