Front Royal Prepares to Welcome King and Queen During U.S. Visit

Britain’s King and Queen have begun a four-day State Visit to the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence while highlighting the long-standing relationship between the two nations.

The visit, taking place from April 27 to April 30, includes several stops in Virginia, where the royal couple will take part in community events and cultural celebrations.

During their time in the state, the King and Queen are expected to meet local residents and community organizations. They will also attend performances by Appalachian cultural groups, showcasing a key part of the region’s heritage.

One of the highlights of the visit will take place in Front Royal, where a community block party is planned for April 30 to celebrate America’s 250th birthday. The event will include a brief parade along Main Street beginning at 11 a.m.

Organizers describe the parade as a short but festive moment rather than a full-day event, with space along Main Street expected to be limited. While there is no guarantee spectators will get a close view of the royal guests, the event offers a rare opportunity to take part in the King and Queen’s first visit to the United States since ascending the throne.

Due to heightened security, attendees should plan ahead. Screening procedures will be in place, and guests may need extra time to enter designated areas. Certain items, including lawn chairs and non-service animals, will not be allowed. Road closures and parking restrictions are also expected throughout downtown, so visitors should be prepared to walk.

Event organizers are also encouraging guests to be mindful of crowd conditions, respect local businesses, and plan for limited cell phone service during the gathering.

The King is also scheduled to visit a U.S. National Park, where he will meet with members of an Indigenous community and individuals working on conservation efforts. The visit is expected to highlight ongoing work to protect natural resources and preserve cultural history.

Meanwhile, the Queen will travel to a Virginia farm to recognize the importance of the horse racing industry. The visit reflects the long-standing ties between the sport in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Front Royal Mayor Lori Cockrell said the town is honored to be part of the historic visit.

“It will be an honor to welcome the Royal Family to the Town of Front Royal during their historic visit for America’s 250th anniversary,” Cockrell said. “We know that when they have an opportunity to see our town and engage with our residents and businesses, they will understand why we love to call this community our home.”

The Town Hall and the Visitor Center will be closed on Thursday, April 30. Normal business operations will resume on Friday, May 1.

The visit comes as both nations look to celebrate shared history while strengthening cultural and community connections.
