Powers Insurance Agency Holds Customer Appreciation Day Featuring Classic Cars and Free Lunch – Yum and WOW!!!

Published

on

Heading to Bill Powers’ Insurance Agency fairly early the morning of Friday, June 20, to pay a car insurance bill, this reporter stumbled upon some classic cars and what appeared to be food and informational booths being set up. Many of the cars were head turners and “bad” to the bone of their undercarriages. — And we assure you we mean that in the best of all possible ways, falling back on the slang of our youth.

The back parking lot would soon be filled with three rows of classics, many hoods up to explore engine work. But the classics weren’t limited to the back lot, as the second shot below illustrates. Royal Examiner Photos Roger Bianchini

We first encountered Powers Insurance Agency team member Dawn Smedley, who left her morning Customer Appreciation Day set-up duties outside temporarily to get back to the more routine day-to-day business of taking a State Farm-affiliated car insurance payment.

Payment made, we followed Smedley back outside. We got in a distant wave to Bill Powers as he made a round of greetings and booth checking to see if anything was needed.

Customer Service rep Dawn Smedley, right, and Office Manager Sheree Jennings prep the snacks and bottled water table, as Bill Powers, background red shirt, discusses coming event logistics with an associate near the Powers Insurance Agency sign at his business’s front door. That business location seemed especially appropriate this day, as seen in the photo below of Sheree and Bill, across the street from the North Royal Avenue Auto Zone.

Asked about the evolution of this Customer Appreciation Day and its classic car theme, Smedley directed me to Powers Insurance Office Manager Sheree Jennings. We asked Jennings how the classic-car-themed Customer Appreciation Day developed.

“Well, we just thought that we have an appreciation for classic cars, and we do auto insurance and such, so we have several that are insured here. And we thought it would be really cool if we had an appreciation day because a lot of people in the community appreciate classic cars, too. So, they get to come and display their vehicles, and everybody can come and appreciate them.

“We wanted to provide lunch for everybody, so we did that and thought it would be cool to have classic cars and some good conversation, a lot of fun, and enjoy the beautiful weather,” Jennings said of the 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. event.

What do we have here?!? Two views of, according to its owner, a 1959-based customized body job that continued drawing a crowd, as did other classics. Below, an auto detailing booth seemed an appropriate fit for the Classic Cars and Customer Appreciation event.

We’ll note that when we returned as the lunch hour kicked off around noon to eyeball some more of those classic cars and enjoy a free lunch of hot dogs and condiments to boot, while the sun was bright it had not yet approached the eventual high of 88 degrees, making that low-to-mid-70s sunshine very tolerable.

One classic car aficionado caught our attention sporting an event-themed T-shirt that this reporter needs to find one of. It read: “I’m not old … I’m Classic”.

Keep scrolling to see a few more perspectives of those classic vehicles. Thanks to Powers Insurance Agency for a classically conceived event.

Several more shots of classics across the street and in the backyard parking lot. The final shot below includes a retro truck delivering “Retro Sounds” for your event, if you decide to have one.

That’s a wrap on a classic event aimed at classic customers from all eras, kind of like the vehicles some of them drive.
