Thursday Town Tip: Take time today to donate blood

PLEASE MAKE TIME TO DONATE BLOOD TODAY, THURSDAY OCTOBER 11, 2018 and Spread the Word—A WHAT MATTERS Community Blood Drive will be held at the Front Royal United Methodist Church 10/11/18 from 1:30-6:30 pm.  Stop by the fellowship hall of the church at 1 W. Main Street in Front Royal and spend just ONE HOUR of your time and add YEARS to the lives of people in need of blood transfusions.

The Red Cross has over 130 years of experience providing humanitarian aid – including more than 70 years of supplying blood to those in need. “My Grandfather credits his survival in a WWII POW camp in Germany to packages sent by the American Red Cross. He traded his cigarettes for vitamins and wrote a journal on the wrappings that came with the packages.  As soon as he was liberated and returned to the USA, he made a donation to the American Red Cross and became a volunteer. My first volunteer activity was attending blood drives with him at the American Legion,” said Beth Medved Waller, blood drive sponsor. She added, “I’m so thankful to the many loyal donors who have supported the drives I’ve had in his memory throughout the years. And I look forward to seeing them and meeting more blood donor friends at this drive!”

Each pint of blood collected can help save up to three lives and will touch the lives of so many more. Donating blood is a completely FREE and easy way to pay it forward and make an impact on people in our community and across the country. Giving is even easier now with technology that enables donors to log online to schedule appointments and pre-complete the health questionnaire! Walk-ins are always appreciated as well.  Visit www.redcrossblood.org for more information about donating or to become a blood drive sponsor.

It’s not every day that we have the opportunity to do something that, with such little effort, has such a lifesaving impact. Please make time to donate today, and bring your children—you never know what an impact watching a loved one give will have on their future.  If you aren’t able to give or can’t give for health reasons, please spread the word and ask a friend. The number one reason people don’t give is because they haven’t been personally asked. Ask! Give! Save Lives!
