I Was the Target This Time—But I Won’t Be Silent
North River District School Board member Melanie Salins has spent years using her position like a weapon. She targets teachers. She targets directors. She targets parents. She targets administrators. She spreads lies and throws out accusations she can’t back up. She’s built her entire public identity on intimidation and lies. And this time, she came after me.
She sent a text to a member of the Fauquier County School Board claiming I had been arrested for being “drunk and disorderly.” She didn’t ask. She didn’t check. She didn’t do her research. But she stated it like it was the truth, like she witnessed it with her own eyes.

This was sent over an hour later.
But it was a lie. It wasn’t me. It was another woman with the same name.
She weaponized a criminal accusation against another individual to try to destroy my reputation and my 27-year career as a public-school teacher, my pride and livelihood, for political and personal reasons. That is not carelessness. That is calculated. That is abuse of power. From a person who is supposed to be an example to the youth of our community, this makes it even more appalling.
I have filed a formal ethics complaint with the Warren County School Board against Melanie Salins for abuse of power and conduct unbecoming of an elected official.
I am demanding:
• A full and transparent ethics investigation.
• A written public apology from Melanie Salins.
• Full release of every communication related to this attack.
• A formal vote of censure by the School Board.
None of this happened overnight. She’s been doing this for years while people looked the other way. That silence is exactly why she keeps doing it. Stop looking away. Stop pretending you don’t see it.
I’m asking everyone to please contact the school board and demand that a censure vote be added to the agenda for November 5th. Chairwoman: kpence@wcps.k12.va.us
