Commentary: From Snow to Spring – Time to Show Off Our Small-Town Pride

Published

on

A local reflection inspired by revitalization expert Jeff Siegler’s recent call to invest in the places we already love.

Even with snow still piled high in Front Royal, spring is just around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to ask: What’s our next step to make this place even better?

In a recent piece, revitalization consultant Jeff Siegler offered a timely reminder to communities like ours: stop focusing only on “hunting” for new investment, and put real effort into “tending” to the places we already have. His message? Pride starts with care, and when a town takes care of itself, it shines from the inside out.

The good news? We’re already doing a lot right.

From holiday parades and downtown flower baskets to building restorations and new businesses, Front Royal has been steadily investing in itself. Our charm isn’t just something we talk about—we live it. You can feel it in the farmer’s market, on Main Street, in our parks, and at community events that bring people together.

But spring invites us to take it further.

What if every business added a fresh coat of paint or a flowerpot at the door? What if neighbors took ten minutes to pick up trash on their block? What if we all saw ourselves as caretakers of this place, not because we’re trying to impress visitors, but because it’s ours?

We don’t need to wait for a new ribbon-cutting or a grant announcement to make Front Royal better. We already have the ingredients — history, people, pride. Let’s keep showing that we care in visible, everyday ways.

Call to Action:

This spring, take one small action to show off the charm we say we have, because we do have it.

Add color. Pick up trash. Support a local shop. Help a neighbor. Tend to what’s here, and do it with pride.

If you have a great idea or want to be part of a community project, tell us: news@royalexaminer.com — we’ll share and spotlight local examples all season long.

Let’s keep showing what small-town charm really looks like, not just in words, but in action.
