John William “Johnny” Dehart (1956 – 2026)

John William “Johnny” Dehart, 69, of Strasburg, Virginia, and formerly of Winchester and Front Royal, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at his home in Strasburg.

John William “Johnny” Dehart

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, at 1:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Sammy Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens in Waterlick.

Johnny was born on October 4, 1956, in Washington, D.C., but was raised in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, the son of the late John William and Enomia Agnes Burns Dehart.

As a superior banjo player, Johnny performed with the bluegrass band Shenandoah Spirits alongside his buddy, Wayne, and lifelong friend, Joe Dioso.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 30 years, Margurite Childress Dehart; five daughters, Nina Dehart of Maryland, Norma Dehart, Patricia Dehart, Michelle Dehart, and Kayla Dehart, all of Florida; one sister, Mildred “Millie” LaPrad of Martinsburg; one brother, Paul Dehart of Huntington, Maryland; and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tommy Dehart, Jake Dehart, and Alfred Dehart; and one sister, Margaret McIntire.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 28, from 12-1 p.m. at the funeral home.
