Shenandoah Medical Associates Welcomes New Patients, Continues Longtime Front Royal Care

Valley Health Shenandoah Medical Associates is accepting new patients, offering Front Royal-area residents access to a team of providers for routine medical care, preventive services, and management of chronic health conditions.

Located at 625 Virginia Ave., the practice includes Dr. Guna Subedi, Dr. Rajesh Subedi, Dr. Bibek Joshi, and physician assistant Katelyn Nicewander. Together, the providers care for adults with a wide range of health needs, from routine checkups and minor illnesses to management of chronic conditions.

In a recent interview, the physicians discussed the practice’s growth, their years in the community, and their goal of providing consistent, close-to-home care.

Dr. Guna Subedi, an internal medicine physician, has practiced in the community for nearly 20 years. Dr. Rajesh Subedi, a family medicine physician, has been practicing locally for about 15 years.

Joshi, also a family medicine physician, joined the practice about a year ago.

“We have been here for a long time,” Guna Subedi said. “And we have a new doctor here, and he is taking new patients.”

Nicewander, a physician assistant specializing in internal medicine, is also accepting patients.

As Joshi approaches his first anniversary with the practice, he said he is happy with his decision to come to Front Royal and has enjoyed his first year in the community. The time, he said, has passed quickly.

Joshi trained in the West Virginia and Pennsylvania region and also has an Air Force background. His arrival adds another provider to a practice where doctors say they see patients with a broad range of medical concerns.

Although Joshi is trained in family medicine, he said the practice focuses primarily on older teenagers and adults rather than pediatric care. Depending on the circumstances, patients may begin receiving care there around age 16.

At the other end of the age range, the practice has patients in their 90s.

Rajesh Subedi said his own practice is similar.

“I’m family practice trained,” he said. “I see mostly adults, like Dr. Joshi said, 16 and older. And we see a broad spectrum of patients with a broad spectrum of problems and health issues.”

That range of care is reflected in the services available at Shenandoah Medical Associates.

The practice provides primary adult medical care and treatment for minor illnesses. Providers also help patients manage long-term conditions including diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid disorders, and high cholesterol.

The office provides flu, pneumonia, Tdap, and B12 injections. Testing and treatments available in the office include urinalysis and urine cultures, pregnancy testing, point-of-care strep and flu tests, INR and glucose testing, EKGs and nebulizer treatments. Telehealth appointments are also offered.

The practice is also working to expand primary care services for women. Rajesh Subedi said Nicewander is helping with that effort by giving women another option within the practice for well-woman and other routine health care. The practice does not provide obstetric care.

Having several providers with different backgrounds also gives patients choices when scheduling their care.

For the doctors, however, adding providers is not simply about increasing available appointments. They said continuity and long-term relationships with patients remain an important part of the practice.

Medicine continues to change, and primary care providers often help patients navigate those changes while coordinating treatment for several health conditions at once.

The doctors said their approach is centered on knowing their patients and providing consistent, personal care over time.

“We want to send a message to the community that we treat our patients like our own family,” Guna Subedi said.

As Joshi approaches his first anniversary at the practice, the group is looking ahead to continuing that model while accepting additional patients.
