Published

on

The annual Fall Benefit Concert of the American Legion will be held Tuesday evening at Randolph-Macon Academy in Front Royal.  Though admission is free, a free-will offering will be collected in memory of Doug Ramos and given to the American Legion’s National Emergency Fund, which provides financial assistance to American Legion family members and posts impacted by natural disasters, such as hurricanes.

The American Legion Community Band, located in Front Royal,  was formed in 1986 and has been playing concerts in the area ever since. The conductors and band members are all volunteer musicians and new members are always welcome.

Randolph-Macon Academy, a college-preparatory, coeducational day and boarding school for students in grades 6 through 12. R-MA is a supporter of the Community Band and provides rehearsal facilities for the band.

The band performs at a variety of concerts and community festivals throughout the year. All performances are free and open to the public, with a repertoire that is both versatile and traditional with works ranging from classical to popular, marches and operatic overtures to modern works for band. The band is sponsored by the Giles B. Cook Post #53 of the American Legion.

The conductors are Ed Richards and Ronald Dye. All rehearsals are held on Tuesdays from 7:30 – 9:00 pm in the Fulton Fine Arts Complex band room at Randolph-Macon Academy.

Anyone who plays an instrument and would like to join is welcome to attend. The American Legion Community Band’s performance season extends from September through July each year with public performances both indoors and out.

The band performed a rousing Independence Day concert, which can be viewed here.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in Boggs Chapel at R-MA.
