Co-owners, Lisa and Scott Jenkins, of Mountain Home Bed & Breakfast, announce an Open House event April 27, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. After more than 4 years of extensive rehabilitation, the Main House is open, enabling visitors and guests to enjoy overnight accommodations and daytime experiences in this historic landmark. To celebrate this occasion, Mountain Home is opening its doors to the public with tours, refreshments, and opportunities to meet the talented crafts-men and women who brought this 1847 Greek Revival style house back to life.

Situated prominently on Remount Road (Route 522) 3.5 miles east of the Town of Front Royal, and just 120 steps from the Appalachian Trail, Mountain Home has been an important part of the Warren County community since its founding in 1847 by Samuel Gardner. The home figured significantly in Civil War activities, and Annie Gardner’s 1862 diary offers insights into what life was like on the farm during the war. The property is included in both the Virginia Landmarks Registry and the National Registry of Historic Places.

Now, operating as a bed and breakfast, Mountain Home welcomes guests from all over the world and all walks of life. Many guests arrive on foot as they hike the Appalachian Trail, others come by car or bus. Some even arrive on bicycle or motorcycle. No matter their mode of transportation, all guests receive the same warm greeting and introduction to Virginia hospitality. Not only is Mountain Home a convenient stop-over for travelers, but it also provides a base for excursions into nearby Shenandoah National Park and the Shenandoah Valley.

Since opening January, 2014, Mountain Home Bed & Breakfast has hosted more than 4,000 overnight guests, primarily in the “Cabbin” a pre-1840 former log cabin. As work progressed on the Main House, Cabbin guests were able to tour the building and catch glimpses of what is involved in rehabilitating an historic structure according to US Department of Interior Guidelines. Now, with Main House rehabilitation complete, guests can take advantage of 3 private bedrooms (Annie’s Room, The Gardners Room, and Rebecca’s Parlor), a parlor, dining room, breakfast room, game room, and outdoor patio. The first floor is wheelchair accessible, including one bedroom and accompanying bathroom. Both the “Cabbin” and Main House are available for overnight accommodation. The Main House is also available for daytime use for private events, as well as local community activities, meetings and gatherings.

Mountain Home Bed & Breakfast is recognized by hikers, travelers, and tourists as a warm and inviting place to stay. With lemonade or tea and cookies, for all who drop in, and hearty made-to-order breakfasts, co-owners Lisa and Scott Jenkins make sure no one leaves hungry.
