Long time prosecutor and Warren County resident, Bryan Layton, currently the senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney with Warren County is seeking the nomination of the Republican Party at its Canvas on April 25, 2019 with plans to run in the General Election after securing the nomination.

With over 15 years’ experience as a career prosecutor, Bryan has served the citizens of Warren County for the last 11 years, handling the full range of serious felonies including sexual assaults, domestic violence, child abuse, arson, and murders. Bryan has also served as special prosecutor in 7 different jurisdictions over his career including Rockingham County, Shenandoah County, the City of Winchester, and Clarke County.

Layton has represented the Warren County office in the continuing legal education and training of law enforcement at the Skyline Regional Criminal Justice Academy and the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, as well as at Executive Meetings of the Commonwealth’s Attorneys Services Council. Bryan has presented at the Youth Academy program in the schools of Warren County and to the Chamber of Commerce on legal issues and the justice system. Bryan has also been an Adjunct Professor at Lord Fairfax Community College since 2015, teaching courses for their paralegal studies program.

Bryan has worked closely throughout his career with the victims of crimes and their advocates. In 2009 he received the Harmony Place Peacekeeper Award in Warren County in recognition of efforts in assisting victims of domestic violence. He has continued those close relationships to this day and is the Chair of the Warren County Sexual Assault Response Team.

Bryan is committed to continuing to work with law enforcement to build on our past success while bringing forward interdictions of chronically intoxicated individuals and other community prosecution measures that impact quality of life in Warren County. Layton’s focus will be on renewing and improving the communication and cooperation between law enforcement and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office that is so critical to public safety. Bryan is already working with local law enforcement on improving their initial interactions with victims and together with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office has facilitated specialized training on that subject for May of this year.
