Criminal, Civil Charges and Requested Protective Order in Alleged Reece Threat and Gunfire Incident Continued to July 29

On May 27, 2026, the docket of Warren County General District Court, a lengthy list of criminal and civil cases involving the October 20, 2025, shooting and alleged threats issued between residents of the 200 block of River Manor Drive in Front Royal were scheduled for a Preliminary Hearing. However, the criminal and civil charges were agreed to be continued by the involved Commonwealth’s and defense legal counsel the previous day.

That left only the complainant’s requested civil Protective Order to be ruled on, on May 27. That protective order involves how the accused, Bradley E. Treece, 60, is allowed access and use of his home property while released on bond.

The Protective Order’s relatively brief Wednesday hearing set its continuation date to July 29th on the 1 p.m. docket. It appears that will be the Preliminary Hearing date for all the continued cases.

As Royal Examiner readers may recall, Treece is accused of threatening his neighbor and using an anti-Semitic slur at that Jewish neighbor and his wife before firing off a large number of gunshots around their property line. As also reported in the Warren County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) Press Release on the incident, “The complainant told deputies that Treece had threatened to kill him and used an anti-semetic slur before firing what he believed to be between 20 and 30 additional rounds.”

RSW Regional Jail mug shot of defendant Bradley Treece upon his 2025 arrest.

The WCSO Press Release also indicated that, “After hours of negotiations and tactical coordination, Treece was taken into custody without incident at around 10:19 p.m. Emergency responders from Warren County Fire and Rescue evaluated Treece at the scene before he was transported to the Rappahannock Shenandoah Warren (RSW) Regional Jail. No injuries were reported among residents or law enforcement officers.”

Also in the WCSO’s initial Press Release, it was noted, “Given the seriousness of the situation, the Sheriff’s Office quickly activated its Incident Command System and set up a command post. Specialized units, including the Crisis Negotiations Team and the Special Operations Team, were deployed to the scene. Mutual aid was requested, and drone teams from Fauquier and Rappahannock Counties, along with the Winchester Police Department’s Tactical Team, joined the response.”

Both defendant Treece and his impacted neighbors were present in the courtroom on Wednesday. Local defense attorney David Downes was present, representing Treece. Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Robert Burke is handling the prosecution, though departmental co-workers handled the routine addition of the requested Protective Order to the ongoing cases on Wednesday.

Among the charges Treece was initially indicted on were: Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Obstruction of Justice, and Assault and Battery as a Hate Crime.
