Endowment Fund Honors Local Woman’s Legacy of Service to Children

When Linda Bell passed away in December 2024, she left behind not only memories but also a lasting legacy of compassion, community service, and quiet dedication to helping others.

To honor that legacy, Linda’s daughter, Valerie Wilson, established the Linda Bell Hope & Blessings Charity Fund, an endowment supporting one of her mother’s dearest causes: the Backpack Buddies Program at Rockland Community Church.

“Backpack Buddies was close to my mom’s heart,” said Wilson. “She loved making sure local children had food for the weekends. It was her way of living out her faith—through simple, consistent acts of love.”

The program provides weekend meals for local schoolchildren who might otherwise go hungry when not in class. Volunteers discreetly place bags of nutritious, kid-friendly food into students’ backpacks each week, ensuring they return to school fed and ready to learn.

Linda was one of those behind-the-scenes volunteers. “She was there week after week, making sure the food got packed, organizing supplies, and always encouraging others to get involved,” said a fellow church member. “She believed every child deserved to feel cared for.”

With her birthday approaching on December 28, Valerie hopes to raise awareness about the fund and inspire others to contribute to its growth. “This endowment means my mom’s work doesn’t stop,” Wilson said. “Every dollar donated helps carry forward her love for kids and her belief in community.”

The fund is held through the National Christian Foundation, ensuring long-term support for the Backpack Buddies program for years to come. All donations go directly toward food and supplies for local children in need.

“No gift is too small,” said Wilson. “Even a few dollars can help feed a child. And I know my mom would be so touched to see her community carrying on her mission of hope and blessings.”

Linda and her friends are working at Rockland Church, filling plastic eggs with candies.
