Goodlatte statement on speaker Ryan’s decision not to seek re-election

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) released the following statement regarding the announcement by Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) that he will not seek re-election:

“Speaker Ryan has served the people of Wisconsin’s First Congressional District, as well as his fellow Members of the U.S. House of Representatives, with great distinction. The role of Speaker is no easy task and one he was reluctant to take, but Paul has handled it with the thoughtful, respectful, and policy-driven approach we have come to expect from him. His achievements during his short time in this role will benefit Americans for generations to come. I know that this was not a decision made lightly, and Paul’s leadership will be missed in the House. I am honored to call Paul a friend, and I wish him and his family the very best.”
