Honoring the Brave: Flags to Fly at Prospect Hill Cemetery This Veterans Day

Published

on

On Tuesday, November 11, members of DRA Club America and the wider Front Royal community will come together to honor the sacrifice of the nation’s servicemen and women—one flag at a time.

As part of a heartfelt annual tradition, volunteers will gather at Prospect Hill Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. to place American flags on the graves of Veterans. It’s a simple act, but one that resonates deeply across generations, offering a quiet, powerful tribute to those who served.

The project is not about ceremony or speeches. It’s about action—walking the rows of headstones, recognizing the names etched in stone, and remembering the lives behind the uniform. And this year, organizers are calling on new and returning volunteers to help make sure every Veteran is honored before the cemetery gates close at 5:00 p.m. sharp.

“This is a chance for all of us to show our appreciation in a tangible way,” a DRA Club America spokesperson said. “The flags are a small gesture, but together they make a powerful statement—that we remember, and we are grateful.”

Participants are asked to meet near the main entrance of Prospect Hill Cemetery at least 15 minutes prior to the 3:30 p.m. start time. The event will run with urgency and care, ensuring all graves are marked before closing time. Volunteers are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes, as walking is involved across uneven terrain.

While it’s a tradition that DRA Club America leads, the invitation is extended to everyone in the community—students, families, civic groups, Veterans, and neighbors of all ages.

Service to our country doesn’t end with the uniform—it continues in acts of remembrance, ensuring local heroes are never forgotten.

Whether you come alone, with your family, or alongside fellow club members, your presence makes a difference. Every flag placed is a sign that someone still remembers. Someone still cares.

This Veterans Day, DRA Club America hopes to see a crowd at the cemetery—not to mourn, but to honor. Because in Front Royal, gratitude lives not just in words, but in the actions we take.
