FRONT ROYAL – Local residents may see a few more motorcyclists than usual in town over the weekend, as Front Royal welcomes the 25th Mid-Atlantic Women’s Motorcycle Rally (MAWMR) Thursday through Saturday.

MAWMR is a group of motorcycle-riding enthusiasts, along with friends and supporters, who have created a community where women motorcycle riders can learn about their hobby, fellowship, support each other and have fun traveling the highway.

The 501C-3 nonprofit began in Maryland, according to Dawn Huber, president, and has members in that state, as well as Pa., W.Va., and Va.  In addition to having fun, educating its members on the rules of the road and riding, MAWMR has raised about a half-million dollars for two cancer charities that assist women during treatment, H.O.P.E.(Help for Oncology Problems and Emotional Support), based in New Freedom, Pa. and Pink Out Women’s Cancer Fund, based in Hanover, Pa.  Both organizations serve cancer patients in the Mid-Atlantic area.

During the rally, the group will stay at the Holiday Inn, north of town in Warren County, and venture out for exploration, adventure, shopping, etc.  The group also has some events planned in the community, including zip-lining in Luray, tubing on the Shenandoah River and taking a drive and having lunch along Skyline Drive.
