Myrtland Hugh “Myrt” Haden (1939 – 2026)
Myrtland Hugh “Myrt” Haden, 87, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, November 2, 2026. His loving family surrounded him.
Myrt was born on March 25, 1939 in Fluvanna County, Virginia to the late Hugh and Elva Wright Haden. He grew up in the Williamsburg area. Myrt was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Wright Haden, and sister, Betty Jane Haskell.
He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran who served overseas in Taiwan and the Philippines, as well as on stateside assignments.
He was a longtime member of the Rockland Community Church. He was also a 30+ year employee of Dulles International Airport, where he was a Supervisor of the Mobile Lounge Branch.
Myrt is survived by his wife of 66 years, Roberta “Gail” (Abbot) Haden; son, Bradley Hugh Haden; two grandchildren, Brady Scott Haden (Sabrina) and Maggie Mae Haden; two great-granddaughters, Isabella Mae Haden and Ariana Pearl Haden; God-daughter, Gail Marie Vasquez (Steven); sister-in-law, Deborah Leigh Couey (Ray); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a kind, gentle, and loving man whose presence brought warmth to everyone he met. Driven by a lifelong passion for helping others, Myrt thrived on being a source of support and generosity whenever and wherever he could. He truly never met a stranger, with a rare gift for open-hearted conversation and a way of making anyone feel immediately welcome in his presence.
Above all else, Myrt’s greatest joy and proudest achievement was his family. He shared an exceptionally close bond with his son, Brad, and treasured his role as a grandfather to Maggie and Brady. His days were further brightened by the adoration he held for his great-granddaughters, Bella and Ari.
At the center of his beautiful life was his partner of 66 years, Gail. Marrying Gail was the single greatest commitment Myrt ever made, and their enduring devotion to one another served as the ultimate foundation for the family he so deeply loved.
His gentle spirit, endless kindness, and conversational warmth will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Blue Ridge Care, 333 West Cork Street, Winchester, Virginia 22601; Rockland Community Church; or to a charity of your choosing.
